We have recently launched a not-for-profit website www.asksharegive.org.nz which is an online community where members share their time, skills, transport and old and unused goods.

The philosophy behind AskShareGive is that hidden in our communities we have an abundance of resources – a plethora of skills, sheds of unused unwanted gear, cars doing solo trips around the place and AskShareGive now gives us the platform to be able to share these resources.

We see AskShareGive as a way of reusing, recycling, upcycling and reducing.

Have a look at this link http://www.asksharegive.org.nz/Listing/195/any-old-stereo-equipment-working-or-not here is someone who wants old and unwanted stereo equipment to give a new life to.

Caught her on Kim Hill, Saturday. Seems the most lucid, informed analyst of the current state-of-play I have yet experienced. Conflates big money — 'the system' — renewable energy reality, nuclear power and bottom-up sustainability into a tightly-argued, refreshingly direct and down-to-earth scenario for future-survival. The outlook is bad indeed. Yet, as she puts is so succinctly, we are surrounded here in Aotearoa with a "large moat". Which means that the possibilities for surviving the approaching global meltdown actually seem viable. Akin to Cuba's community response to the American economic embargo some ten/twenty years (?) ago. A clear-sighted and hands-on first division intellectual who has done her homework. Unmissable.

Fabulously, wonderfully yummy! Who organised this? It's so good to see positive, community events like this happening in our huge, anonymous city.
What a relief, it was all beginning to look a bit bleak with our potential, so-called leaders using the current media spotlight time to take pot shots at each other rather than inspiring the country with a shared vision for our road ahead...

Hi Bryce
It looks like you have confused Grey Lynn 2030 for a branch of the Labour party. You can read what we are actually about here http://www.greylynn2030.co.nz/about/
We are behind initiatives and projects such as the Grey Lynn Farmers Market, Grey Lynn Business Association, the Wilton Street Community Garden, Green Screen, Waste Away etc - why not come along to find out more or choose your own way to make a positive contribution to the community you live in.
Regards Pippa for the Grey Lynn 2030 Streering committee

Oh Darling-Isn't it wonderful being a chardonnay(or should that be a pinot grigio)socialist/One must keep up to date.....I just made the mistake(possibly)of joining the Labour Party, following in the footsteps of my parents and in-laws,one of whom was secretary of the Auckland Boilermakers Union. But I see that these days, rather than worrying about all the children in this country living in poverty, the many working poor, etc,it's much more important to buy organic etc,and to let everyone know how worthy we are for doing so.I suspect many of those who vote Labour are content to buy Home Brand,if that's the difference between eating or not.I look forward to coming to my branch meeting to meet some of you wonderful people so I can hear some of this politically correct waffle such as "working for connected communities"from your own lips.

Yours sincerely,
Bryce Robinson.

P.S As you support the Samoa Community Festival,I wonder how many Samoan friends you have,or how many Samoans have visited your lovely home?

I think this is a core idea: a hell of a lot of people in this life dont actually usethe internet....especially elderly people...and they must feel really excluded with all the advertising"dub dub dub ..." so having a post office is THEIR way of communicating with their loved ones-just because everyone else is intoxicated by new technology, doesnt mean the old ones are....they like things the way they are,and so,they should be allowed that little bit of the way things used to be.The art of letter writing,by the way,has contributed enormously to our history and culture.the art of calligraphy/good writing and the construction of good letters, diaries, essays, is key to literature.

Here in Dunedin we have been trying to save our post office and Kiwibank for the last four weeks. We started a Facebook page and Twitter page overnight as soon as the news broke, and a petition too. A stall has been operating outside our post office nearly every day for the last four weeks at different times to catch different customers. We currently have nearly 2500 signatures. The petition was addressed to NZ POST. People are still signing. Today we did more direct action and held a NZ Post Education Campaign called "We're going to get NZ Post's Attention. We're going to buy a Stamp." People come and buy a stamp and line up at the post office 1.1km away where all of the 284 customers a day are supposed to now go to. We are trying to show how long the queues will get if our post office goes. We are doing the same again on Monday at our actual post office to show how much support it has from its customers. You could do this for days and days if you wanted. It went well today. We did a poster-drop around all the shops nearby, and gave away flyers outside the post office to promote it. The Mayor wrote a letter to NZ Post offering solutions but this has been ignored. Local MP's have also approached NZ Post's CEO, again ignored. Your Mr Fa'Fui, has fobbed us off. We aren't giving up, and are looking at other things we can do now. Get in touch if you want to know anything else. J Howard, Save Dunedin Metro Post Office and Kiwibank Campaign.
