Great North Rd Upgrade Update

Auckland Transport are moving to the next works areas (Stage 3) on Great North Road, between:

• Nixon Street and Mackelvie Street

Auckland Transport will be installing new drainage, ducting, streetlighting, footpaths, tree pits and upgrading intersections in these locations from 20 May 2025 to early July 2025.

Please remember:

• The top of some side streets in these areas will be closed to vehicles, please follow the detours.
• Businesses will be open as usual.
• Finishing work – including road resurfacing, lane markings, installing cycle separators and planting – will happen at the end of the project later this year.

Site Set Up – Night Works

• The existing sites (between  Mackelvie Street and Sussex Street, and Northland Street and Crummer Road) will be largely disestablished on Monday 19 May between 5:30pm – 11:00pm.
• Fences and traffic management will be removed and temporary line marking installed. Sites will remain near St Joseph’s Church/Grey Lynn Library and 419 Great North Road until early June while Auckland Transport finish up some work here.

• Auckland Transport will set up work areas and temporary traffic management for the new sites (between Nixon Street and Mackelvie Street and Brisbane Street and King Street) from 11:00pm Monday 19 May – 5:00am Tuesday 20 May.
• These two sections of Great North Road will be closed to all traffic except buses during this time and detours will be in place for all other traffic.
