Watercare – Help shape our water future- community input
Let’s shape Auckland’s water future together.
Watercare is developing a 70-year strategy to secure safe, reliable, and affordable water services for generations to come.
This collaborative effort will address the realities of a growing population, aging infrastructure, and the increasing pressures of climate change.
Because the decisions we make today will resonate for decades, Watercare is actively seeking input from all Aucklanders. We invite you to learn about the challenges we face and the trade-offs involved, and to share your priorities.
The Watercare team are currently presenting across Auckland, encouraging everyone to participate in this important conversation.
You can also contribute by exploring the information and completing a brief five-minute survey on the Watercare website, which includes a booklet detailing the challenges and potential solutions.
Your feedback will ensure our long-term plans reflect the community’s needs and expectations.
The experiences of the 2020 drought and subsequent Auckland Anniversary 2023 floods highlighted our shared vulnerability and the importance of proactive planning.
This strategy is an opportunity for every Aucklander to become informed about our water and wastewater services, understand the future challenges, and actively participate in shaping our city’s water future.
Ways you can get involved:

Aucklanders have until June 1 to share their thoughts and ideas. Watercare will then draft a strategy document, which will be released for public consultation in February 2026.
The strategy will then be used to guide what Watercare invest in.
It will be regularly reviewed and updated to keep up with our ever-changing city.
