Native Trees- Planting Programme
In 2021, after removal of dangerous pines 7800 native trees were planted – mahoe, karamu, kanuka and cabbage tree. This was followed by a community planting day on Sunday 18 July, which was attended by more than 60 members of the community.
The native forest includes plants and trees like pūriri, taraire and tānekaha is thriving and provicding habitat for a range of wildlife including tui, grey warbler, and silvereye
Four Years Later- May 2025
After a very dry summer – the hardy natives have made it through. The heavy autumn rains and cooler weather will fuel rapid growth.
The regenerating native forest is lovely to see. Wander around the track and experience its quiet beauty, and lovely views in the middle of our city.
