Auckland Botanic Gardens – Planting Guides
If you can’t make it but want to do some winter planting at your place? Take a look at this excellent guide.
The team at the Auckland Botanic Gardens has conducted extensive research and trials to identify plants that thrive in Auckland’s specific climate and soil conditions. By planting species suited to their environment, you’ll cultivate healthier gardens which are naturally more resistant to disease, demand less maintenance, and often won’t require chemical sprays.
For instance, much of the inner west of Auckland is characterised by a coastal environment. It’s worth considering the natural ecosystem of your area—the one that flourished long before human development. This inherent ecosystem continues to influence your area, and planting in harmony with it will lead to more vibrant and successful growth.
Here’s the Aucklan Coastal environment guide.
It is interesting to consider the ecosystem that is in your area – and was far more obvious before humans came along. That ecosystem is still there and if you plant the right plants they thrive.
