Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre

Grey Lynn 2030 worked for 12 years to have a local recycling centre.

We were originally inspired by the work of Warren Snow. Sadly Warren did not live to see the Waiōrea CRC open.

Getting a local CRC was a long complex project with many ups and downs. In 2023, Wai Orea CRC  opened, funded by Auckland Council. It is managed by Henderson community group MPHS

“I know the community will celebrate the opening of the Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre. Grey Lynn 2030 has worked tirelessly over many years with council’s waste team with a vision and passion for zero waste.” Parul Sood

The Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre building was developed with sustainable principles in mind. As well as repurposing an existing heritage building, the refurbishment incorporated recycled materials and a reusable covering instead of single-use plastic shrink-wrap as temporary protection during remedial work on the roof

Where:

The venue address is 990 Great North Rd, Western Springs, Auckland.

Community Recycling Centre

For 12 years we worked for a local recycling centre.

Grey Lynn 2030 ran a trial in Onehunga called RePurpose.

In Auckland, there are currently 14 Community Recycling Centres (CRCs). The Auckland Council is expanding this network to include 21 CRCs.

Our community gave input on the need for a CRC in the City Centre. We look forward to seeing the Vincent Street Pop Up CRC open.
