  • Training Volunteers for waste reduction projects
  • Running composting workshops  - worm farming for apartment dwellers
  • Waste management for residents who live in apartment buildings (MUDS)

 

 Waitemata 2030 Waste Away

Community volunteers committed to promoting and taking action to reduce waste to landfill in Waitemata.

Sone of Waste Away’s actions:

  • Organised local E-Waste drop-off collection events from 2009 across Waitemata -  Newmarket, Parnell, City Centre, Ponsonby and Grey Lynn
  • Food Scraps Rollout Community Education with Auckland Council
  • Setting up café/restaurant food waste diversion from landfill by  composting/worm farm onsite and a collection/composting system. Holding Bokashi bucket demonstrations at  local cafes
  •  Weekly education stall at the Grey Lynn Farmers market since 2009, once a month at the Parnell Farmers Market since April 2011, and each week at the Grey Lynn Park Festival since 2009.
  • Provision of street-side recycling facilities and an education stall at  West Lynn and Grey Lynn Street parties
  • Street side recycling at Grey Lynn's Rugby World Cup  - Adopt a team events
  • Talking to attendees at the Grey Lynn Park Festival ro recycle correctly
  • Household battery collection service at the weekly Grey Lynn Farmers Market and the promotion of rechargeable battery use.
